Katarina Wit began skating at age five. She was able to prove her skills and get into a Karl-Marx-Stadt special school for gifted kids. They met Jutta Muller in this school. Witt achieved her breakthrough in the second position she placed in the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. In the years since, Witt's elegance and grace have caught the interest of all. Olympic triumph at Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's silver medal in figure skating after an intense contest. Her victory four years ago was even closer. Free skates were an unbeatable loss. However, her gold medal resulted from her performances at both mandatory figures (short programme) and mandatory figures. Witt became the women's first repeatedly crowned winner of figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes as a performer, however, she returned to figure skating to participate in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd even though she didn't win an award. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, 1995.
